
Founded in 1990 by Randi Fairbrother, and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1991, Catalyst for Cats, Inc. of Santa Barbara, CA is dedicated to helping stray and feral cats. The organization’s primary goal is to prevent the suffering of cats, and its main strategy is the reduction and control of feral cat populations within Santa Barbara County through its TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and feeding programs.

Marci Kladnik, Catalyst for Cats board member extraordinaire, has been accepted into the international Cat Writers’ Association. CWA is an organization of professionals writing, publishing, and broadcasting about cats. Members include writers, editors, publishers, artists, public relations specialists, broadcasters and others.
Marci’s column on this website has just received a 2011 Cat Writers’ Association Award of Excellence! To be recognized by her esteemed peers is an honor indeed.
Known in the Santa Barbara County area for her regular cat related column in the Santa Ynez Valley News and Santa Maria Times, Marci also spends countless hours each week furthering the Catalyst for Cats mission of addressing the feline overpopulation problem and preventing cruelty to animals by stopping the birth of unwanted and uncared for kittens.
Marci was born and raised in Santa Barbara and is a retired graphic designer and technical writer. She lives in Los Alamos with four cats (all rescued) and one Scottie, a kitten "whisperer". She has two grown daughters.
